A comprehensive risk analysis has been conducted and provided to NSWRYA for insurance purposes. Despite everyone’s best endeavours, there are risks associated with model yacht racing and all members are encouraged to always take extra care when participating in squadron activities or using squadron equipment on or off the waterways.
A first aid kit is available from the safety officer on site if ever required. In extreme circumstances, should survival devices ever be required, NCYC is in very close proximity, where a wider range of first aid supplies including defibulator are available at the ground floor bar. If necessary, an ambulance can always be called by phoning 000.
The squadron owns a 3.5 Smartwave rescue boat which is used to lay marker buoys and retrieve model boats in distress. The rescue boat has an aluminium trailer and is powered by a four-stroke Honda motor with electric start. This boat is extremely stable and is available to be used by all participating members providing they have each been fully briefed on how to operate it. Within the boat is a comprehensive guide on how the boat should be prepared and operated. The Rescue boat is fully equipped with all required safety equipment.
Any other class (A rater, DF65, Soling, Laser, etc) which not nominated is welcome to participate in stipulated races.
Newcastle Radio Yacht Squadron Inc. is affiliated with NSW Radio Yacht Association. Each primary member of NRYS becomes a member of the state association and is insured individually.
